A speech to laugh at, a toast to cry at, and a smile to share
Well the time has come. For some reason I thought I had more time than this, but apparently life comes faster than you think. I guess I should stop eluding the point and let you know what the heck I am referring to......OR....I could just keep rattling on about nothing just to see how far you will go, desperately seeking the point (IF I even have one).
The topic is: The Wedding, or rather the Marriage of my one and only sister.
I'm sitting here trying to write a speech that will blow everyone away. A speech that will be funny, charming, and romantic. A speech that briefly describes the last 20 years with my sister. How do you put into words the love and admiration that you have for someone? How does one say, "I love you and I'm happy for you" creatively? Typically, writing is not a struggle for me (obviously).
I'm a speech writer, it's what I do. I don't discuss a lot of emotions face to face, but I'm great at putting them to paper. Only this time, the speech actually gets read aloud. No, this isn't my first rodeo, I have done many public speeches. It's not even that I'm afraid of screwing it up or hurting her feelings. It's more that I want this moment to be absolutely perfect.
Perhaps I should start with an introduction of the alleged "sister".
Jillian is a 24 year old "mean machine" as I've called her. No sparing feelings here, it's MY blog. (:
That's right, my sister could kick my butt in a heartbeat (which is why I only say mean things to her when I'm in a car and she's outside of it---easy getaway). We are opposites in nearly a MILLION things, but yet we're the same. I pretty much wanted to kill her everyday that we lived together, but let's face it I'm a neat freak and her stuff was ALWAYS on my half of the room. Legit, Jill, get some measuring tape and move your crap! ;)
She knows how to take care of herself, which is something I've appreciated learning from her. She moved out of our house right after high school and joined the military. It was just like that, BOOM, she's gone.
Okay, enough rambling. You get the point. She's tough, 3 years older than me, and brave. Those are just a few things that make up the eldest Cline kid. I idolize her in so many ways. I often feel like school is killing me and then I remember Jill and how tough she was in Afghanistan.
God gave me an amazing sister and I can't imagine life without her. Having a sister is perfect in so many ways and I feel bad for all the girls out there who don't have a sister. She always knows when something is wrong without me saying a word, she makes me laugh when I'm mad, laughs at my jokes that aren't even funny (let's face it, most of them aren't *insert muffin joke here*), and she ALWAYS has my back. All I could ever want for her is real happiness.
So as for this speech, it WILL be epic. Perhaps later I will share it (:
In the mean time, Congratulations to Warren Stevens (Peace) and Jillian Cline. I can't wait to see you two standing together promising to love one another forever (and I promise I won't barf at the romance this time).
